What Are Travelers Booking on KOALA?

The timeshare industry continues to grow, and that means mainstream travelers are becoming more aware of the benefits of staying in timeshares. As travelers seek affordable and high-quality vacation experiences, this directly translates into more bookings on KOALA. This year our bookings are up over 30% compared to 2022; a continued testimony to your support for KOALA and our commitment to supporting you alongside the rest of the timeshare community. We have prepared this list of the fall’s most booked locations. Understanding where recent demand lies can provide insightful guidance for creating your next listings.

Mike Kennedy - Nov 15, 2023

Timeshare owners on KOALA have earned a record amount of payouts this year, but there have been some headwinds too. Economic inflation, a mild cooling from pent-up pandemic travel demand and a record number of Americans traveling abroad contributed to an AGB (Average Gross Booking) price dipping this summer by around 14% — a slight decrease from just last fall.

But don’t fret! These extraneous factors signal a temporary shift in the market and we’re already seeing some price correction overall. Adjusting your prices to market can still position you well for bookings. We typically advise marking your list price at 20% to 25% below similar accommodations prices (here’s a guide on how to do just that)  – we now suggest looking at fresh market comps and discount a bit more than that if feasible.  As always, we recommend keeping your cancellation policy as flexible as possible – without risking your points or weeks. If your listing is a high demand/prime week, take these suggestions with a grain of salt as it could defy the average rates.

Lastly, I strongly recommend being mindful of cognitive biases when pricing. Our goal is to empower the community to win at rentals, and that starts with with proper tools and reliable market knowledge, but often pricing according to your associated costs or perceived value can lead to overpricing.
